Hi all,
I can offer a fair bit to this forum as I have been an 'at home mum, a part-time working mum, and an Early Educator staff member in many childcare centres.
I would be looking to try to get your child into a Community Based Child Care Centre for about 3 days a week. Having worked in such a centre I know the staff love the kids and the children get precious social skills for use in later life.
I'm now in Early Intervention and my little girl is 18 and I'm helping to teach her to drive (aaaargh help me!) anyway time just flys so enjoy them when they are young.
Just a warning here: I have worked fulltime in an ABC Centre and was absolutely shocked at what went on! As I signed a confidentiality form I cannot specify but it was awful for staff and for those poor children.....I wanted to take them with me when I resigned!!
ABC is looking at making a profit for their shareholders first, and not looking after and supplying learning items, toys, books, educational supplies etc last.
A childcare centre should NEVER be run by those out to make millions and try to take over the world as your child becomes just one more payment in the ABC coffers. I call them The McDonalds of Childcare, they hate that because it is true, every centre looks and runs the same way, and this is not a good way.
I see lots of centres in my job now and it is The Community based ones that are the best!
All your money goes back into the centre in some way and benefits the children not shareholders from ABC.
Anyway my daughter has turned out to be a gorgeous young woman and I feel the three days she had in a community based child care centre (Mon, Tues, Wed), were instrumental in socialising her and teaching her many things before school. The Thursday and Friday I only had part-time work and did that at home so got to spend time with her
It's worked for me and my daughter so just my 2 cents worth.
Happy Times,
